This is an easy wheat bread that uses white flour along with the whole wheat flour. Nothing goes better with warm homemade bread than homemade butter!
Ingredients:
1 cup of warm water (110-115 degrees)
1 Tbsp milk
2 Tbsp oil
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1.5 cups bread flour (All purpose flour will work too)
1.5 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp instant active dry yeast
Start by combining the first six ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir together. Next, add the flour and yeast. Knead the dough for 10 – 15 minutes or until it’s smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a bowl that has been oiled, then brush a small amount of oil onto the top of the dough ball. Cover bowl with a towel and allow the dough to rise for about 40 minutes. It should just about double in size. After the dough has risen, mash it down and knead it again for a few minutes until smooth. Form the dough into a loaf and place it in an oiled loaf pan and cover again. Allow the dough to rise for another 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Have you tried making this using King Arthur Flour’s white whole wheat flour? It’s a different variety of whole wheat so it has all of whole wheat’s nutritional benefits, but doesn’t have that strong whole wheat flavor. Yummy! Evev my wonder bread loving husband likes it.
